Helpful Tips to Prepare For Your Proctoring Session

Review these best practices to ensure a successful exam session with the ProctorU Platform.

1. Identify an appropriate testing location.

Find a quiet, well-lit space where you can be the only person in the room. Review a list of locations that are not appropriate for taking an exam. Things to prepare for:

  • You will be asked to show the whole room that you are testing in. If you are uncomfortable showing your bedroom, please choose a room that you are comfortable showing.
  • Any person in the room will be asked to leave.
  • Any noises (even if coming from another room) will need to be silenced.
  • There should not be anything under your desk.
  • There should not be any items hanging on the wall in front of you. Please make sure that bulletin boards, cork boards, calendars, or anything else are cleared from the wall. Your proctor will ask you to remove these and it can delay the process of getting into your exam.
  • You may only use one monitor during your exam and must close all other applications before connecting to your session. Unplug any secondary monitors and restart your computer to make sure all systems and processes are up to date.

2. Clear your desk or workspace before connecting to your proctoring session.

NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR AN EXAM SESSION

desk with unpermitted materials

To ensure a faster exam start time, be sure to remove all materials from your workspace except for those allowed by your exam rules. Common unpermitted items include books, calendars, loose paper, sticky notes, writing utensils, secondary monitors, mobile or handheld devices, etc.

The desk should only contain your computer and permitted resources.

3. Make sure you have all usernames and passwords needed for your exam.

This includes your ProctorU credentials as well as your LMS (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) or test delivery platform credentials. If you are unsure if you will need login credentials for your exam, reach out to your institution or organization for more information.

4. Review additional preparatory materials.

Familiarize yourself with what to expect on exam day, including the steps you’ll be asked to take during the exam launch process.

Good luck on your exam!
